RONCALLI successfully finished

In July 2004 the RONCALLI project, sponsored by the Austrian ministry of transport, innovation and technology, has been successfully finished. With the successful implementation of RONCALLI, the consortium has proven that road safety information can be made available in real time to each participant and that this does not necessitate the development of special hardware (keyword car navigation system), rather existing standard business equipment can be used. Already the prototype system boasts several promising features:

• Real time traffic information (the customer is always up to date);
• Attractive and efficient road safety services with an easily understood Human Machine Interface (HMI) that does not distract the driver;
• The use of standard hardware to avoid isolated solutions and ensure ease of learning and use for the prospective customer
• Providing a leading contribution to road safety in Austria which represents an increase in value for the consumer as well as for the entire economy;

The RONCALLI project has brought out and demonstrated the potential of traffic telematic applications as well as the technical solutions they have to offer. With this project, the RONCALLI consortium has laid a solid cornerstone for the new orientation of traffic telematics.
